Three Problems
- We tend to squander the moments when we are waiting, traveling, or transitioning.
- The time we spend listening to music, watching TV, or scrolling on social media is often longer than intended.
- If our eyes are focused on the destination, we will miss the journey.
Five Principles
- Each of us will spend months, years, or even decades of life in the car.
- We can maximize our drive time without distracting our drive time.
- Drive time is often best spent doing nothing more than sitting quietly in our thoughts.
- Conversations about time are not about right and wrong but about better and best.
- Life’s greatest gifts are often found in places of frustration and boredom.
Five Practices
- Every time you start your car, make a decision about the best use of your time.
- Make a list of 10 people to call and 10 podcasts to explore while on the road this month.
- Schedule a few minutes each day that are devoted to simply thinking.
- For each commute longer than 30 minutes, prioritize both personal growth and relational connection.
- Identify opportunities to increase the value of low-value time.
