Episode #211 Be Too Much

Excellence will always be attacked in a world content with complacency. This week, Dr. Michael Brown and Luke Woolard have a conversation about exploration, energy, and empathy.

Show Notes

Every day I wake up and choose to be the one who brings that positive mindset… It might make people uneasy at first, but I know in the end it’s gonna bring us all up.
Luke Woolard

Three Problems

  • Our tendency is to be too little rather than too much.
  • A judgmental attitude often conceals jealousy, insecurity, and uncertainty.
  • We may be perceived as too much even when we are simply being ourselves.

Seven Principles

  • A busy life is more exciting and satisfying than a boring life.
  • Every recreational activity fits into one of two categories: draining or rejuvenating.
  • It’s OK to smile at strangers and small-talk with servers.
  • Confidence is not a personality trait but a choice we make.
  • We are capable of cultivating a positive culture instead of conforming to a negative one.
  • Positivity is not the opposite of empathy, and they can actually complement each other.
  • Regardless of what we have been told, it is healthy to express our emotions.

Three Practices

  • Focus on being more interested in others than interesting to others.
  • Develop a morning routine that orients, energizes, and prepares you for the day ahead.
  • Create a daily reminder of this commitment: “I will do nothing halfway.”
