Three Problems
- Most of our bad decisions in life are rooted in fear.
- Fear often stops us from achieving our most important goals in life.
- The three most common fears are of death, loneliness, and failure.
Five Principles
- Fear triggers either avoidance or action.
- We can experience fear without surrendering to it.
- Most of the things we are afraid will happen are never going to happen.
- Failure presents our greatest opportunity for growth and development.
- We cannot control whether we are afraid, but we can always choose to face our fears.
Five Practices
- Identify your fear with the question, “What am I afraid of?”
- Investigate your fear with the question, “Why am I afraid?”
- Incriminate your fear with the question, “Do I need to be afraid?”
- Practice radical acceptance by considering, “Could I be OK if my worst fear happened?”
- Allow your children to experience the failure that leads to growth.
